Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a great freedom fighter and a leader of the Indian National Congress. He was born on 11th November 1888. He was a man of diverse talent. He was an acclaimed poet in Urdu. He worked as a journalist and protested against British Raj through his works. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Gandhiji’s ideas. He wrote many books to raise his voice against the British. Among them ‘India Wins Freedom’ and Ghubar-e-Khatir are very popular. For his devotion to education and zeal for the upliftment of the Indian people, he became the first Education Minister in independent India. To Mark his contribution, his birthday is celebrated as National Education Day. This great educationist left us on 22 February 1985.
