1st quatrain(1- 4 lines)
In the first quatrain, Shakespeare compares himself to late autumn when most of the leaves turn yellow and fall. The tree becomes bare and empty. The birds have flown away. The empty branches look like the ruined church where the singing of choirs can no longer be heard. This image shows that the poet has reached the final stage of his life, losing all vitality and strength.
প্রথম কোয়াট্রেনে, শেক্সপিয়ার নিজেকে শরতের শেষের দিকের সাথে তুলনা করেছেন যখন বেশিরভাগ পাতা হলুদ হয়ে ঝরে পড়ে। গাছটি খালি হয়ে পাতা হীন হয়ে গেছে। পাখিরা উড়ে গেছে। খালি ডালগুলি ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত গির্জার মতো দেখাচ্ছে যেখানে গায়কদলের গান আর শোনা যায় না। এই চিত্রটি দেখায় যে কবি তার জীবনের শেষ পর্যায়ে পৌঁছেছেন, সমস্ত প্রাণশক্তি এবং শক্তি হারিয়েছেন।
2 quatrain(5 – 8 line):
In the second quatrain, the poet compares himself to the Twilight of a day. It is a transitional period of a day when the sun sets in the west. The light fades, and the darkness comes. Just as the day fades into the night, the poet’s life is approaching the end.
দ্বিতীয় কোয়াট্রেনটিতে, কবি নিজেকে দিনের গোধূলির সাথে তুলনা করেছেন। এটি এমন একটি ক্রান্তিকালীন সময় যখন সূর্য পশ্চিমে অস্ত যায়। আলো ম্লান হয়ে যায় এবং অন্ধকার আসে। ঠিক যেমন দিন রাতের মধ্যে মিশে যায়, কবির জীবনের শেষের দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে।
3rd quatrain (9 -12 lines):
The third quatrain deals with the image of a dying fire. The wood that nourishes the fire to burn will turn into ashes. The poet means to say that the time which once nourished his life is now consuming his life. Now the fire is burnt out, and the ashes are left. The image symbolises that the poet’s strength, youth, and aspirations have been lost, leaving only his frail body.
তৃতীয় কোয়াট্রেনটি একটি মৃতপ্রায় আগুনের চিত্র নিয়ে আলোচনা করে। যে কাঠ আগুনকে জ্বলতে সাহায্য করে, সেই কাঠ আবার ছাই হয়ে যায়। কবি বলতে চাইছেন যে, যে সময় একসময় তার জীবনকে পুষ্ট করেছিল, তা এখন তার জীবনকে গ্রাস করছে। এখন আগুন পুড়ে গেছে, এবং ছাই অবশিষ্ট রয়েছে। ছবিটি প্রতীকী করে যে কবির শক্তি, যৌবন এবং আকাঙ্ক্ষা হারিয়ে গেছে, কেবল তার দুর্বল শরীর রেখে গেছে।
Concluding Couplet (13 – 14 lines):
The concluding couplet conveys that true love becomes stronger in the face of ageing and death. When the poet’s beloved realises that the poet will not live longer, he would value the poet more and love him with greater intensity.
শেষের পঙক্তিটি ইঙ্গিত দেয় যে বার্ধক্য এবং মৃত্যুর মুখোমুখি হয়ে সত্যিকারের ভালোবাসা আরও শক্তিশালী হয়ে ওঠে। যখন কবির প্রেয়সী বুঝতে পারে যে কবি আর বেশি দিন বাঁচবেন না, তখন তিনি কবিকে আরও বেশি মূল্য দেবেন এবং আরও তীব্রতার সাথে তাকে ভালোবাসবেন।
